1. Instant foods that remind you of home

  • Studying abroad in Taiwan is exciting, but sometimes you might feel:
“I miss my family…” or “I want Japanese food!”

  • In these moments, Japanese food can really lift your spirits!

2. Recommended Japanese instant foods to bring
1️⃣ Instant ramen – Popular in Taiwan, but more expensive than in Japan. Bringing your own is cheap, tasty, and easy to cook.
2️⃣ Instant miso soup – Comforting and perfect when you feel down.
3️⃣ Curry roux or retort curry packs – Just add rice for an instant taste of Japan. Highly recommended!
4️⃣ Pasta sauce – Available in Taiwan, but pricey. Buying from Japan saves money.
5️⃣ Donburi packs (beef bowl, oyakodon, etc.) – Pre-cooked and safe to bring, just pour over rice for an instant Japanese meal.

💡 Tip:

  • Feeling homesick is normal! Don’t worry.

  • Food can help you take care of your emotional well-being.

  • Enjoy Japanese flavors to stay happy and energized while living in Taiwan! 🌟

2. 100 Yen Shop Items

Why:

  • In Japan, 100-yen shops (dollar stores) are everywhere and super cheap.

  • In Taiwan, you won’t find such stores with so many affordable items, so it’s smart to bring some things from Japan before you come.

Recommended Items:
1️⃣ Laundry basket – Foldable types fit in your suitcase and are very useful in dorm life.
2️⃣ Microwave-safe cooking containers (for cooking rice or pasta) – Essential if you plan to cook for yourself. Hard to find and pricey in Taiwan.
3️⃣ Clothes storage shelves – Hanging organizers save space and help keep dorm closets neat.
4️⃣ Laundry hangers – Can’t get them cheaply in Taiwan, so bring them from Japan!

💡 Tip:

  • 100-yen shops have many small items that make daily life easier.

  • Buying these before coming to Taiwan makes settling in much smoother! ✨

3. Bring Sunscreen & Cosmetics (Including Extras)

Why:

  • Japanese skincare and cosmetics in Taiwan can cost up to twice as much as in Japan.

  • Selection is limited, and many stores carry mostly foreign brands, which can feel unfamiliar or unreliable.

Recommendation:

  • Bring your usual Japanese products and include extra stock for long-term use.

  • Balance with your suitcase space, but it’s better to bring more than less.

✈️ Example (for someone returning to Japan twice a year):

  • Sunscreen: 3 bottles

  • Hair oil: 3 bottles

  • Skincare items: 2 sets

💡 Tip:

  • Even if you can buy them in Taiwan, price difference + peace of mind = worth bringing from Japan.

  • For long-term students, having a stock of familiar cosmetics makes life in Taiwan much more comfortable!
