Taiwan Memory ⑥ ~ A Once-in-a-Lifetime Encounter in Daxi~

This time, we want to share a special encounter we had outside of school. We have a hobby in common: watching the sunset. On that day, we visited a place called Daxi for the first time. We enjoyed the beautiful green scenery, took photos, and talked while relaxing.

Then something unexpected happened. While we were taking pictures, some Taiwanese grandmothers nearby came up to us and asked, “Are you Japanese?” At first, we thought they just wanted to help us take pictures. But as we continued talking, the conversation became more and more fun, and suddenly they said, “Would you like to come to our house for dinner?”

To be honest, we were a little nervous at first. But as we talked more, we could really feel their kindness, and we decided to accept their invitation.

At their house, they served us delicious homemade Taiwanese dishes and told us many stories about Taiwanese culture and daily life. And when we were about to leave, they gave us more vegetables and food than we could even carry.

Through every moment, we strongly felt 人情味(renqingwei)—the warm-hearted kindness that Taiwanese people are known for.

 This once-in-a-lifetime encounter in Daxi, far from our university, touched our hearts deeply. It was a moment that reminded us just how amazing the power of human connection can be.
