It was our first time celebrating New Year’s Eve in Taiwan! One of the most famous events in Taiwan is welcoming the New Year while watching the fireworks at Taipei 101. When we counted down together and watched the fireworks, we were very moved.
For Japanese people, New Year’s Eve is usually an important time spent with family and relatives. So we felt a little lonely because we couldn’t be with our families. But spending the night with friends who were studying abroad with us made it very special.
However, the train ride home was extremely crowded, and we almost missed the last train…! If you plan to go to Taipei 101 on New Year’s Eve, it's a good idea to check your transportation and timing beforehand.
As a side note, after we returned to the university safely, we tried to watch the first sunrise of the year together. Sadly, it was cloudy, and we couldn’t see it.
Still, celebrating the New Year with friends, laughing and enjoying the moment together, became a memory we will never forget.
