If you stay in Taiwan for more than three months, you must apply for an ARC (Alien Resident Certificate).

Below is a clear guide on how to apply for the ARC for the first time and how to renew it.

Applying for an ARC

After arriving in Taiwan and receiving your resident visa, you must apply for the ARC within 15 days.

There are two ways to apply:

1. At the immigration office (in person)

2. Online (recommended)

Why online is better:

• Easier than applying in person

• No need to return to the office even if there are mistakes

• You can submit anytime with less stress

⚠️ Important: If you fail to apply within 15 days, you may be fined.

Below is the step-by-step guide for online application.

Online Application (First-Time Applicants)

STEP 1: Visit the application website

https://coa.immigration.gov.tw/coa-frontend/student/entry

STEP 2: Create an account

Go to: 【外國與外籍學生】→【我要申請】→【註冊帳號】

※ Remember your ID and password—you will need them every time you log in.

STEP 3: Log in and start the application

Go to: 【線上申辦】→【居留證首次申請】→【新增申請人】

Fill in your basic information (status, purpose of study, study program, etc.)

STEP 4: Prepare the required documents (JPG/PDF)

You will need:

• Passport-style photo (this will appear on your ARC)

• Passport

• Resident visa page

• Proof of residence

Enrollment certificate

STEP 5: Upload your photo and select your school

STEP 6: Upload all required documents

STEP 7: Fill in your personal information

• Chinese name

• Gender

• Passport expiry date

• Nationality

• Taiwanese ID number (if you already have one)

• Visa issue date

• Visa type

• Highest education level

• Years of study

• Marital status

• Taiwanese phone number

• Taiwanese address

• Email

• Emergency contact in Taiwan (name, phone number, nationality)

STEP 8: Submit your application

Your application number will appear on the screen,then take a screenshot just in case.

STEP 9: Pay the application fee

After your application is approved, you will receive an email.

💰 Fee: NT$1,000 for 1-year ARC 💳 Payment methods: credit card, online payment, convenience store, etc.

You can download your receipt from: 「下載專區」→「收據下載」 ※ You MUST bring this receipt when collecting your ARC.

ARC Renewal

You can renew your ARC one month before it expires. If you want to be extra safe, 1.5 months before is also fine.

STEP 1: Visit the same website

→https://coa.immigration.gov.tw/coa-frontend/student/entry

STEP 2: Log in

Go to: 【外國與外籍學生】→【我要申請】

Enter your ARC number, password, and the verification code.

Then choose: 【線上申請】→【居留證延期申請】

Fill in:

• ARC number

• Type of student program

• Reason for extension

STEP 3: Upload the required documents

Same as the first-time application.

STEP 4: Choose the ARC duration

You can choose:

• 1 year

• 2 years

• 3 years

STEP 5: Check or update your personal information

If nothing has changed, you can leave it as it is.

STEP 6: Choose where to pick up your ARC

Select the nearest immigration service center.

STEP 7: Submit your application

STEP 8: Pay the fee (within 5 days!)

Same payment methods as the application. ⚠️ Once you pay, it is non-refundable.

STEP 9: Pick up your ARC

Bring:

• Your receipt

• Your passport or another ID
