Your Best Friend for Getting Around Taiwan!
If you're living in Taiwan, YouBike is seriously one of the most useful things ever. You’ll see these orange bikes everywhere near MRT stations, tourist spots, universities… basically all over the city. They’re perfect for commuting, sightseeing, or just running quick errands.
Here’s a simple guide on how to register, rent, return, the fees, and common errors.
📱 What You Need to Register on the YouBike App
A Taiwanese phone number
Passport or ARC
An IC card (EasyCard, iPASS) or a credit card
🔧 Registration Steps
Open the official YouBike app or website → Tap 「加入會員」 (Join Member)
Enter your Taiwanese phone number → You’ll receive a verification code
Set your password
Fill in your member information + IC card details:
Name
Passport number or ARC number
Date of birth
Address (just general info is okay)
Email address
It only takes 5–6 minutes, and you can start riding right away! ✨
🚲 How to Rent a YouBike
Press the green button next to the bike’s handle
Tap your IC card on the sensor area
When you hear the beep, pull the bike out of the dock
How to Return the Bike
Push the front wheel plate firmly into the dock (you’ll hear a solid click!)
When the screen shows 「還車成功 請靠卡」 (Return successful, please tap card) → Tap your IC card again to complete the return
⚠️ Common Problems & Error Messages
When Renting
重新靠卡 → Tap your card again
卡片未註冊 → Register your card / wait a moment and try again
餘額不足 → Not enough balance → Recharge at a convenience store or MRT
超時未取車 → You waited too long → Tap again
本車暫停服務 → This bike is unavailable → Choose another one
When Returning
錯卡扣款 → You must tap the same card you used to rent the bike
餘額不足 → Make sure your card has enough balance before returning
